Date Night Choices:
1) Dinner and a movie out
2) DVD and popcorn at home
3) Theater tickets
4) Romantic walk through the park
5) Budget discussion complete w/Excel Spreadsheets
Oooo, ooo, raising hand for number five! I mean, it’s got everything.
- Intrigue – What was this bill for again?
- Romance – Ah, honey look, it’s the charge for my Valentine’s Day present
- Comedy – How much money do we need each month? What a bunch of kidders!
- Action – If we move the money around here and squeeze tight there we might be able to pay this bill.
- Drama – Will the family survive the stresses and struggles of these financial difficulties? (insert emotional soundtrack here)
And so on. So really, two hours spent going over high finances is actually a very thrilling, date night appropriate activity. There wasn’t any popcorn served during the Budgetary Talks of March 2007 (although the children had some while enjoying a movie in the other room) but there was definitely laughter and the potential for some serious tears. Unlike other date nights, this one ended in prayer time. See how God redeems even the strangest of dates.
Maybe tomorrow night we can watch a movie and let the children work on finances.
Kathy
Oh sadly, that describes most of our date nights too.
The others require spare cash don’t they?
Never mind!
Dorothy
I think it is appropriate that there were no pictures taken of this event — really, some things are too graphic even for our jaded readers.
It is strange, but I actually had a good time going over the numbers with you, Kathy. I like being ‘together’ with you even if it is on the way to debtor’s prison.
My vote was for the movie (and maybe ice cream?), but I think you were right in taking the time to look at our financial (shudder) position.
At least Kathy doesn’t give you a Sam look – when she knows she’s been bad or doing something questionable
and she’s being talked to she just looks up at some distant point away from your face -are you talking to me?? And who said dogs weren’t smart??
#1 would’ve been my choice..after getting money from the change jar to pay for dinner! Sad when the change jar has more money in it than my wallet!
At least you’ll be together on your way to debtor’s prison – maybe we’ll be neighbors – hee.hee! Be glad you don’t have one going off to college this year like we do – ugh! Talk about debtor’s prison……
You two are wise and godly AND funny.
I am very proud of you!
I love you both!! AK
Dorothy – only too right! Even renting a video from the library can carry a hidden cost as we are often late with returns. A dollar a day adds up fast!
Posie – I am NOT ready to think about college costs at this time. I don’t even want to think about the new roof this house is going to need soon. In fact, I don’t think I want to think any more at all.
Can I resign from life without losing my retirement package?
Kathy – I love your sense of humor!!!! Like I have said before . . it must be so much fun living in your house!
