P365 – Day 84 (Chocolate Brownies)

Somehow I don’t think this is what Jesus meant when he said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Mt. 19:14

Plus, one of those “children” looks a little big. Mr. P couldn’t resist sneaking into the picture. Some would say he’s just a ‘big kid’ anyway so he’s invited into the kid photo. :)

We had our small group Bible study this evening and the P’s graciously brought chocolate. The pan was just barely enough to feed the whole crowd (I blame the ravenous children for the lack of leftovers). We’ve moved our study to an earlier hour which is working out great except the children are often famished by the time we’re done meeting. They descend like locusts when the snacks are revealed.

Lately I’ve been starting dinner while the guests are visiting and gathering up their things. I don’t mean to be rude as I pull together things for a quick dinner, it’s just that the children rapidly move into starvation/grumpy mood the later the hour gets. Thankfully I am a multi-tasker so I can usually gather food for dinner, chat with friends, and take pictures all at the same time.

It’s a gift and a curse.

  1. You are great at multi-tasking, Kath, which is something I’ve always lacked. As I’ve said before, your small group looks so fun!!

  2. When everyone attends, we have more than 20 kids belonging to the families in our small group. Last night was a bit of a ‘light attendance’ night so we had only 13 kids. And it was a good thing, since there was just the one plate of brownies. When the adults are finished praying, I usually go to each of the rooms where the kids are sequestered and ‘release’ them … then they all stampede out and devour whatever doesn’t move. For a while, our small group meetings were turning into potluck dinners (and lasting 3 or 4 hours), and so we recently made a decision to de-emphasize food as a part of our fellowship. Happily, Mr. P saw fit to re-interpret that decision, which greatly pleased the locusts, er, kids.

  3. Rachel, you definitely need to come to our Small Group. I don’t know why you keep taking so long to get here. I feel a pout coming on. Doesn’t Dave have another conference out here soon?? Are we going to the reunion this fall????

  4. Emily – I try not to brag but sometimes these things just come out. Do I get more points if I say I didn’t EAT any of those chocolate brownies? They looked and smelled amazing but then I’m in serious chocolate deprivation mode since I am off sugar. Ha!!

  5. I bet you could also help a young ‘un with math while talking on the phone, making dinner, and snapping a few pics! I think we’re a lot alike!
