After a full day playing in the water, David and Sarah were hungry for dinner. Mind you, my children seem to be hungry ALL the TIME. It doesn’t matter if we just finished a delicious meal, they are already thinking (and talking) about the upcoming snack. Really I don’t know why their mother doesn’t feed them.
These goggles accompany David on his journeys through the water – lake, pool, bathtub – they are faithful accessories.
Sarah keeps her head above water despite her brother’s attempts to splash her right out of the lake.
This afternoon we went straight from our lake outing to the church where we dropped off Rachel and Daniel. A little bit later Joshua went to middle school and only David and Sarah were left at home. Since it was still incredibly hot outside (at least for Washington state), the kids decided to get back in the water.
The lack of dirt and grass in the water is a clear indication that this picture is from yesterday, shortly after we bought the pool.
I thought this little plastic pool would be a big let down after hours in the lake. Nope, they had a fantastic time playing with the hose, jumping in and out of the pool, and throwing bowls of water on each other.
It was much too hot to make dinner. I started the grill but then realized I didn’t have any hamburger patties. Tim said we could just scrounge for food, obviously not remembering that there is a serious lack of leftovers these days with such hearty eaters. Finally I managed to fix David and Sarah plates of warmed up angel hair pasta, adding a hard-boiled egg for some protein.
Sarah was so excited to see this delicious dinner she clapped her hands in glee. “Oh, noodles and hard-boiled eggs, my best food.”
Yep, that’s her bestest food. Pasta and eggs.
I guess it’s true that hunger is the best sauce. Anyone else want to join us for dinner? It’s sure to be a culinary delight. Maybe it will turn out to be one of your best foods. You never know.

Project 365 – Days 191 & 192
LOL Just when you think, “whew, it’s summer now they won’t be as hungry.” The growth spurts start and they’re eating you out of house and home. I cook a dozen hard boiled eggs a week and they’re gone in half that time. yikes.
Yes, I’d like to join you for dinner. I’m great with pasta and a hard boiled egg.
Sweet pics of your kiddos. It looks like (in our paper) that your heat wave is cooling off a bit today. Are you sad about that? Andy says it’s VERY hot staying with gramma Gail in her tiny condo with NO ac. He’s on his way to LA for the day- to talk to someone about a toy. Ha.
I love you. Aunt Kate
Hey, who’s complaining about pasta and a hard-boiled egg? I just set aside the pasta (OK, I forgot it in the microwave) and added some lettuce, swiss cheese, a little turkey, a tomato and some croutons, and voila! A delicious chef salad, just the right fare for a hot summer evening.
Sarah is sometimes picky, but easily pleased if you know her likes and dislikes. She is very appreciative of noodles of any kind. David eats almost anything, thanks to his mother’s good example at a key time in his development, and has a very thankful heart. Delightful children, both of them.
That’s almost as tasty as Jacob’s dinner this past week – 2 pieces of bacon, a PB&J Uncrustables sandwhich and greenbeans!!! Yeah, it was pretty yuck in my opinion but he loved it!!
Loved the backyard pool – very cute!!! Kids love water in any form – they know how to have fun!
My little guy wanted to know WHO those kids were on my “pudoo” and why they were eating eggs. He wants to know if he can come over and play in the pool (LOL)!
What fun!!!
I just wanted to let you know that there is something for you posted on my blog today!! Have a great afternoon!!
Hey! The pool looks like soo much fun! On Wednesday Tarah and I put our sprinkler by our trampoline and played on it for a loooong time! The other kids didn’t want to because they were too hot and the water was too cold Tarah and I had a blast; I think later today we might do it again!
Lisa – I always find it so encouraging to know other moms are in the same boat as me (the cook a lot of food, feed a bunch of rascals, clean up all the time sinking boat). My crew LOVE hard boiled eggs. Sounds like you all do too.
Maybe some chickens would be handy.
Aunt Kate – I think you’re right, the heat wave has somewhat passed. Joshua is thrilled. Ha! He doesn’t enjoy the warm weather quite as much as the rest of us (he’s wearing long sleeves and long pants as we speak).
Cynthia – tell him to come on over! You know we always like more kids here at our place. We’ll splash all the water out of this dinky pool, eat noodles and eggs, and then ride our bikes over to the castle park. Sounds great!
Posie – that does sound like a combination my group would love as well. I don’t mind if Sarah and David like spaghetti and hard boiled eggs, it’s just calling it her best food that made me cringe. My Aunt Stephanie (the gourmet chef) would absolutely cringe if she heard something like that. Of course, since we had hot dogs for breakfast the other day, I don’t think we’re exactly setting high culinary standards here. ha!
Amy – thanks for thinking of me! You’re too kind. I’ll post a link so everyone can see all the great blogs you’re enjoying these days.
LOL yes, that’s all I need, more things to care for. What I really need is for the next door neighbors to have chickens and them not like the eggs and just want to give them to us.lololol
It IS nice to know I’m not alone in this. Somedays, when things don’t go to well, reading other people’s blogs gives me such encouragement!
Kathy,
Thanks! I’ll let him know. We actually might come out your direction in Nov to see a Bears game. It would be fun to get together and this time I’ll bring my kids so yours aren’t the only ones at the coffee shop.
It might be a little cold to go swimming in Nov, but I’m sure they could find some sort of Revolutionary War game to play!
The Littles love pasta and eggs. I scramble the eggs up and put it right in the with pasta…big hit!
The pool is the summer draw in this house…kids and water.
