Happy Fourth of July

Holiday Hours

Let’s see, how shall we spend this year’s Fourth of July? Last year it was hot and sunny and we spent a good portion of the day at the park with friends. This year was more cool and gray. Washington is nothing if not a study in contrasts.

Nonetheless we managed to have an excellent day, as you can see.

Sleep in – check
Sugar cereal or pancakes for breakfast – check
Backyard relaxing – check
Time with friends – check

girls waiting for candy

Sarah, Caedie and Jaalah wait for the parade to start.

Parade – check
Board game with kiddos – check
Fried chicken – check
Snuggle couch time w/ children reading – check

boys are there too

Daniel, David and Eli are sure they will beat the girls to the candy.

More time with friends – check
Fireworks – check

I think we did it all.

God Bless America

How did you celebrate our independence day? Family, friends, picnics, hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, sparklers, watermelon, games, a fair. All of the above? Do share!

Homemade ice cream! That was missing from our day. I knew we forgot something.

Ah, maybe next year.

  1. Sigh. We had hot, at least! I was thankful to have been born in the free-est nation on earth! None of the above, though, except sleeping in. July 4th is the Queen of Norway’s birthday, as well, but we didn’t celebrate that either.

  2. We just did a little of this and a little of that, very little (LOL)! A couple of naps, snacking throughout the day, and fireworks to end it all…

  3. Looks like a blast was had by all! I’m am sooooooooo glad that I stumbled on ya!

P.S. Is that a Rossi sign I see??? You must be from around here! :-)

  4. It was warm, sunny and beautiful here. We worked around the house, Brian did projects, I gardened. We had watermelon, burgers on the grill, a fire in the firepit and fireworks.

  5. We had burgers and french fries! mmmmm. And brownies, can hardly get more American than that here.
We even had a small fireworks display at CDM too. Then of course we all sang The Star Spangled Banner as loudly as we possibly could. hehehe.
Not quite the same as being in the good old USA on the Fourth, but we will take it. :)

  6. Our church had their annual Fourth of July blowout but this year the Methodist and Presbyterian churches joined in the expenses. Greg & I signed up to serve the free food (hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and water). Since Ronald (our cousin Kristi’s hubby; she’s in Iraq) came to spend the weekend with us he very graciously took my place instead. I watched Jacob and his friend Mikayla as her parents along with Greg and Ronald ended up working for 3 hours as not enough workers did their duty… They ran out of food (5,000 plus people) and finally were done at 9 a.m. We watched the great fireworks which lasted for 45 minutes and were really good this year! We love doing this as we get to see great fireworks yet visit with our Sunday School class also!

  7. Yours looks very much like ours :D

Well, except we threw in a few parade-candy-induced melt-downs… our own private little fireworks show! ;)

    Happy belated 4th!
