We had a lovely time camping this weekend. Can I call it “the weekend’ if we were only gone for one night? Tim is still easing me into the whole ‘sleep in a tent’ thing. The children need no easing or convincing. They love every minute of the entire camping experience.
I’m too tired to write much. It’s only 9:50 pm and I’m falling asleep while I blog. That’s pretty early for this night owl so I’m going to post a few pictures, enjoy a hot shower and then climb in my own bed. Hooray! You know how it is being away from home (night after, uh, night).
We are now officially hikers. Even Sarah handled most of the trail in good spirits.
All of the children took turns caring for the fire.
Our campsite was close to the river. We did a great deal of exploring up and down the river bank.
We had a great time. It felt like we were gone for days and yet we still have the rest of the holiday weekend stretching ahead of us.
We did come home to quite an unpleasant mystery. I’ll write about that tomorrow.

Project 365 – Day 244
How cute they are–what a sweet bunch of little blondies!
Sounds like you had a great time.
Good for you, intrepid campers all! Looks like you had a great day for it, too. You get more for your money when you go for more than one night, though – pretty much the same work for more time. So fear not the 2-nighter!
Glad you had such fun! We were going to go in September, but decided we weren’t brave enough! (You’ve got me curious about your mystery…)
Looks like you had FUN! It sure is nice when they are old enough to hike on their own! No more aching back from carrying them around in a backpack!
Wow. How gorgeous! Quite a different backdrop when we camp here in the midwest! You are blessed!
The top picture reminds me of a scene from The Sound of Music. Glad you all had fun!
Darling photos – makes me want to go camping one more time….wait we are in TX – Winter IS the camping season. That’s right…..
So glad you have a great time, Kathy. Brian and I are die-hard trailer campers, but we have thought of doing some canoe camping. There are some wonderful places around to paddle and camp.
The scenery is beautiful behind your handsome family.
How funny to see everyone in pants and long sleeve shirts – it’s so hot and muggy here in Atlanta!!! Ugghhh! We’re looking at another 2 – 2 1/2 months before we even THINK about long sleeves……
The camping sounds fun – was it only 1 night away from home? (or did it feel like one year?? – ha!). Glad you got some use out of that great bargain!!! The pictures were beautiful!!
Lucky You! Sounds like fun to me!
We had a great time camping – next time we’ll try for two nights. Gasp. I’m easing into the life as a camping mama.
Posie – it was COLD! I was very appreciative of our fire in the morning. I do not like being cold at all. I’m terrible that way. Tim was comfortable the entire time. Definitely wasn’t hot until the middle of the hike, in the direct sunshine.
When you camp in GA are you hot, even at night??
Debbie – when did you move to trailer camping? I think those pop-up campers look great! Of course, we’ve only been once as a family so it hardly seems reasonable to start justifying big camping expenses. Ha! I loved the beauty of being out in nature, the togetherness of the family time, and the free exploring the children enjoyed. I did NOT, however, get a good night’s sleep. Is it possible to sleep well in a tent? We had an air mattress – thank you, Jennifer!! – but I was still achy and creaky and awake a good part of the night.
My only complaint.
Kathy, I started out as a die-hard camper…doing five weeks of kayaking and camping in Alaska. Brian and I camped for our honeymoon. A few years after we were married, we moved up to a pop-up camper. Neither of us were thrilled with that. A few years later we went to a camping trailer and have loved it ever since. We upgraded when Bessie was two and still have the same trailer today…quite a bit more crowded with four more children, but still very doable.
We love, love, love trailer camping. It allows us the fun of the camping experience, without so much of the yuckiness that can happen (major rainstorms, flooded tents, wet clothes and cranky campers). We have camped for weeks at a time when Brian has been on business. We have camped in freezing cold weather, a hurricane and everything in between. We stay warm (or cool), dry and very comfortable. I like being able to get up in the morning and have that first cup of tea without changing out of my jammies. I like being able to get up in the night with a small child to go to the bathroom without walking to the bathhouse. We like cooking our own meals and not having to go anywhere if we don’t want for breakfast. We like being able to choose when and where we want to go at a moments notice. (Can you tell we really like trailer camping!?) It makes it very pleasant to be comfortable, but still traveling to fun places. We always laugh that we live in a “wilder” place than most campgrounds, but it is the traveling experience that we love.
Very interesting, Katherine. You are stretching! I am proud of you. The pics are glorious. God in all His beauty!! AK
Both my sisters and their families camp a lot back in Indiana. I bought a 10 person camp to start us out but my hubby doesn’t really like to camp so it sits in the attic . . .just waiting for us to use it . . .maybe someday!
